A31: Infection due to other mycobacteria

A31.0: Pulmonary mycobacterial infection

Mycobacteria are a particular type of bacteria. The bacteria trigger symptoms when the body’s defense system is weakened. The symptoms depend on which organ is affected. The bacteria are resistant to many drugs. The bacteria are difficult to treat. Treatment is therefore over a long period for the most part.

Your lungs have been inflamed by the bacteria. The lungs are on the left and right side of the ribcage. They are also connected to the nose and mouth via the bronchial tubes and windpipe (trachea). With a lung inflammation like this, coughing without phlegm is common. It is also sometimes possible to cough up blood. You may have breathing difficulties and pain in the ribcage. You can also have a fever and feel tired and feeble.
