A25.0: Spirillosis
Rat-bite fever is caused by certain bacteria. These bacteria occur mainly in Asia. There, the bacteria occur in rats and other rodents. You can become infected by having contact with infected animals. You can also become infected via impure food or water.
Rat-bite fever can cause a high temperature. The fever can also keep recurring over a long time. If you have a bite wound, it can heal initially. After a few days or weeks, the healed wound may become inflamed again. You can also get a rash and your lymph nodes can be enlarged.
The lymph nodes are small bean-shaped objects. They are found throughout the body. Lymph nodes filter the tissue fluid. They are part of the defense system.
