A24.2: Subacute and chronic melioidosis
Melioidosis is caused by certain bacteria. These bacteria are mostly found in Asia, Australia and Africa. The bacteria occur in water and the soil there. You can get infected if you get the bacteria in your mouth or inhale them. The bacteria can also get into your skin via lesions.
You have been ill for over 2 months. If you have melioidosis for a long time you can have a high temperature and lose weight. Knots of changed skin may also form, and open lesions can form in them. Buildups of pus can also form on the internal organs.
