A23: Brucellosis

A23.0: Brucellosis due to Brucella melitensis

You have been infected with brucella bacteria. These bacteria are usually transmitted from animals to people. Among other things, you can be infected by drinking milk from sick goats and sheep. If you are infected with the bacteria, the symptoms usually occur after several days.

If you have Malta fever, the fever can persist over days or weeks and be up and down several times in the process. The bacteria can cause the bones, joints or inner organs to become inflamed. That can cause pain.
