Oral surgery - from the solid foundation to clinical advancement. Modular training program with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Evgeniy Alexiev
Basic information
The modular program in oral surgery is a structured training aimed at building a solid theoretical and practical foundation in oral surgery, with a clear focus on clinical applicability. The course is conceived as an introduction and sequential refinement of key surgical skills that are fundamental not only for surgical interventions but also for everyday dental practice.
The training follows a logical, progressive path — from the anatomical and physiological prerequisites of pain and its effective control, through basic surgical maneuvers and tissue handling, to tooth and root extractions, also considered from a contemporary implantology perspective. Each module combines an in-depth theoretical part with practical training, including exercises, work with instruments, models and observation of clinical demonstrations.
The program is aimed at dental practitioners who wish to build confidence, predictability and a systematic approach in oral surgical procedures, laying the foundations for future advancement and ongoing professional development
Benefits for participants
- Building solid and applicable knowledge in oral surgery that serves as a foundation for safe and predictable clinical practice.
- Mastering the principles of pain-free dental treatment through the correct selection of local anesthetics and effective injection techniques.
- Ability to manage clinically difficult-to-anesthetize cases and patients with comorbidities.
- Increasing confidence in performing tooth extractions, including in complicated and high-risk clinical situations.
- Acquiring the correct approach to selecting and using surgical instruments.
- Gaining knowledge and practical skills for working with soft tissues – incisions, tissue approximation, choice of suture materials and suturing techniques.
- Ensuring a more predictable and controlled healing process following surgical interventions.
- Development of better ergonomics and a systematic clinical approach in oral surgical procedures.
- Improved clinical judgment for extractions, also considered from the viewpoint of contemporary implantology.
- Creating confidence to advance knowledge and skills into more complex surgical and implantological treatments.

Module 1: Anesthesia in Oral Surgery and Dental Medicine
Module 1 lays the foundations of a safe and calm dental practice, focusing on the anatomical, pharmacological and clinical principles of local anesthesia. Participants will become thoroughly acquainted with the mechanisms of pain in the orofacial region and with the anatomical prerequisites that determine the success or failure of anesthesia.
Theory
- Familiarization with the anatomical prerequisites of pain in the orofacial region;
- The instrumentation – knowledge is a guarantee for a painless start;
- Local anesthetics – the key to calm in dental medicine;
- Methods of success – injection techniques and their application;
- The secret of difficult clinical cases and practical solutions for their successful management.
Practice
- Practical exercises with instrumentation for local anesthesia;
- Dose calculation for patients with comorbidities;
- Observation of different injection techniques for anesthesia;
- Anesthesia in difficult clinical cases.

Module 2: Basic surgical manipulations – from separation of tissues to management of the healing process. Surgical instruments. Types of incisions. Joining of tissues – types of suture material and suturing techniques.
Module 2 is focused on mastering the basic surgical principles that underlie every oral surgical intervention – from separation of the tissues to their correct joining and controlled healing.
Theory
- Groups of instruments in oral surgery;
- Indications and methods of using the instruments;
- Types of incisions in the different areas of the oral cavity;
- Joining of tissues – types of suture material and indications for the use of different types of needles and types of sutures;
- Types of sutures and technique of execution.
Practice
- Practical exercises with the different types of instruments;
- Practical exercise on models – performing the basic types of sutures;
- Demonstration of real clinical cases.

Module 3: Extraction of teeth and tooth roots. Extraction from the perspective of implantology.
Module 3 is dedicated to the extraction of teeth and tooth roots as a key surgical procedure, examined both in its classical aspect and through the prism of modern implantology.
Theory
- Indications for extraction of teeth and tooth roots;
- Instrumentarium for extraction;
- Approaches to extraction;
- Imaging studies and assessment of difficulties
- The era of implant-determined extraction.
Practice
- Practical exercises to master the technique of working with the extraction instruments;
- Practical exercises to improve ergonomics in the extraction of teeth and tooth roots;
- Exercises on models;
